Deep water fishing, in recent years, has increased. It is the main reason behind the rapid depletion of fish stock. A recent paper published in Maine Policy by a team of marine biologists explains how fishing operations are now targeting the unregulated high seas because stocks near the shore have been overfished. This has in turn depleted the fish and destroyed miles of deep-sea coral.
